How to set torque setting - steel wheel nuts
Hi

Daft question but cant get my head around it. I want to fit my Wolf Rims for a couple of months replacing my XS alloys. I have a new set of steel nuts and know the torque should be 170 lbs ft.

My torque wrench only goes to 100 lbs ft.

Any suggestions to make sure I have got them tight enough? I thought of doing this in two steps 100 then 70 but surely the second time it would be already past the setting and not therefore work? Banging Head

Thanks 2010 XS USW

Buy a bigger torque wrench!

Either that or a torqje multiplier, your only options really.

I'm wondering if torquing to 100 and then tightening a set number of degrees would do it.

Is there a calculation for the extra 70, or would it be a applicable to take that figure from a similar setup?

I'm happy to torque mine to 100 & then reset to 170 & report the additional degrees.

If several members were to do it would the figures be that different?

Hi
I thought I knew the answer but I was trying to avoid 'another bill'. Given its a fundamental safety matter no time for penny pinching. That said I could fit then pop to my local tyre garage and ask them to torque them up for me to get mobile.

All I need now is a 'vat off' offer from Machine Mart Whistle 2010 XS USW

There must be a thread on here with regard to the best torque wrenches/best prices...never found MM vfm for anything.

Nip along to Halfords, some of theirs can be good quality at a reasonable price.

Halfords torque wrench has served me well for years. You will use it again so it’s a good investment. No point in short cutting safety. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

once was stuck like you and used a bathroom scales or if you have one a spring balance for example a 2 ft wrench push or pull until you see 85 lbs, if that makes sense, obviously the length of your wrench alters the maths. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Hands up who's fitted a wheel without using a torque wrench and not died as a result? Darren

Wrong, correct Wolf rims torque is 170Nm, which is equal to 125lbs ft.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Halfords have a good range if you have a trade card. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Don't have a card but they seem to have a better range. I really should buy a better wrench mines years old in any case. I just had a plan to do a wheel swap tomorrow then thought about setting the torque hence the question. 2010 XS USW
