Just out of interest, is this a roadside repair? I ask because I have seen advice to carry a spare bearing set when off road travelling but my Haynes manual

It's for a spare kit in case it goes in Morocco. Whether I can do it without a press, I don't know. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

You do not need a press or vice and it can be done easily at the roadside provided that you have the right tools.

The right tools consist of:
- 19mm socket to undo drive flange bolts - something to remove the circlip - flat screwdriver to knock back lock tab - hammer - 52mm socket - soft bar for removing and reseating bearing races - grease All you really need. Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |

All assuming you use the double nut method not the single stake nut method. Torque can be done by feel pretty easily. Ed

Referring to double nut vs single? Older models have two nuts with washer that's peened over to lock the two nuts in place.
Setting the torque, do it up tight (one grunt) until you feel resistance when spinning the wheel and then back off the first but so that the hub spins freely again. The lock tab and do up second nut tight against the first. I find it easiest to loosely do up the second but first before bending the lock tab over the first. Then you can tighten the second and lock it in place. Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |
