I would get the bonnet specific stuff personally. In the summer and under big loads even a diesel can create some pretty high under bonnet temperatures.
Having said that, if you really want to use it then I would definately foil line it first ![]() 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Yeah I see what you mean! Mainly just as I have some left over and being closed cell wont absorb water! Where as the proper under bonnet stuff is usually open cell which fills up with water and eventually sags and falls down
Got a layer of LizardSkin on it now so that should make a difference anyhow Cheers ![]() |

Sealing around the edge of the bonnet makes quite a big difference as well. I did mine with 15mm × 15mm closed cell foam strip

Not a bad shout that, think ive got some neoprene left over from making new bulkhead vents. Pretty big gap there too!

I think the foil covered stuff just cooks the engine plastics, as it just reflects all the heat back.
I've got some black under bonnet foam, basically a foam with a sort of perforated vinyl on it. It's lasted fine over the past year, and the adhesive is giving up a bit around the edges but it's not coming off enough to worry about. I also put some foam strips along the sides and front of the bonnet so it seals against the wings and front panel, that makes a surprising difference to the noise and keeps most of the water and dirt out. |

All done! Quick and simple to do, did the edge of the bonnet as suggested, had just enough left over.
Preliminary results a tad quiter but it is alot more "dead" very few rattles and the like. Well worth it! ![]() Click image to enlarge |

I had everything done with buzzweld 2k chassis armour on the inside, definately helps to deaden the panels
