Thanks, Martin.

Steve, that's odd, because what I want them to do is come on when I flash someone, but also come on when I put main beam on. If I use the main beam wire, are you saying they WON'T come on when the lights are flashed? Now left.

They will if your switch is on in the dash, if it's off they won't.

The dash switch just isolates them from your headlight main beam, so you can run main beam headlights with out spots on.

And with dash switch on, both will be working.

Thanks very much everyone - all done without any smoke. Didn't use a switch, just wired the trigger wire from the feed to the main beam direct to the relay. Made two mistakes, but relays are forgivable. First of all left the earth on the relay, so they lit up as soon as I touched one of the wires on

then forgot to connect the earth from the spots themselves, so they wouldn't come on when main beam or flash selected

. But instantly realised why not and corrected.

Ring Automotive (who supplied the spots) were completely useless. Their technical help guy seems like a decent bloke, but when I explained my problem a few days ago he said he'd send me an email with a diagram. He did...but for positive switching and the same diagram that's in the box! I sent them an email explaining again that it's negative switching, and they didn't reply. So I sent them another, and they said they couldn't help! A big company like Ring don't know how to wire a relay with negative switching??? Won't be buying anything from them again - British, too, which is a shame. Now left.

I like to make my own looms most of the time, a lot of "kits" are using far to small a gauge of cable mm2 for the current capacity required. ____\We|Will|Win/___

Funny you should say that. The instructions said to use 17amp wire, which I thought was overkill as 55w divided by 12v equals 4.6 amps. But I went with the suggestion. But the instructions didn't say what amp relay to use, so I went crazy and bought a 30amp one. Now left.
