Would a lt95/lt85 stand up 4.8 or 5.3 chevy LS engine which puts out about 300-330hp?

Have a word with Dan at DT Engine solutions, he just stuck a 5.7 chevy in a Defender the last couple of weeks.

Probably not too long with the way I drive Very Happy

But it would be for my father who is a more relaxed driver and I think if it can stand up to 4.6's then a 4.8/5.3 shouldn't be much worse.

he loves the defender but wants a V8 burble to complete the package

Its the torque that kills the box.
My old cobra had a 5.0 RV8 putting out 360 lb/foot with an LT75 - never had any problems but then I was careful not to dump the clutch at 3k rpm - guess you'd not do that in a Landie anyway Shocked Richard

+1 its not HP, its torque and shock loading that kills the tranny! The TX box should be up to the job though

The Santana LT85 was always known as a strong 'box but the later R380 L suffix 'box is similar in terms of strength and better in pretty much every way. Darren

I used to have a 5.7 chevy engine with an LT77 gearbox. Worked well but I was never sure how long it would last. Sold it but last heard it was still going
