An LS3 in a Defender would be a GREAT conversion, IF,..... 500HP & 570NM is what you want, and if you are prepared to do it properly.
For me, it WOULD be the ultimate, but for sure, I do not have the dollars to do it. It ain't just the engine, there's brakes, diffs, driveline, suspension, exhaust, electrics-instruments etc, and make no mistake, whilst a Defender is never gonna handle like an F1 car, it can be made to go, handle, & stop very well,...IF ya have the dollars, & IF...... that's what YOU really want,.....otherwise, yes, there are probably better ways to go. Some people simply are not interested in this sort of stuff in a Defender, fair enough I say, but for those that have actually put an LS3 in their Defender, well I don't hear too many complaints from them,....but what I do see, is a big grin on their face, simply because it's what THEY want, after having spent a fair bit of their own "Hard Earned". So you think spending 15K on an engine swap is practical (utilitarian)? 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

Personnel preference yes. It’s like buying a Rolls Royce Phantom! If you can afford it you can afford a chauffeur too. Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

The way I'm looking at this is; if the engine goes bang and you want to keep the Defender what do you replace it with? If you could get a 3.2 for a little extra then I would certainly do that. Personally I'd love the LS3 but practically a diesel putting out around 230-250hp and 500-600 NM would be plenty. I think its the high torque that suits the Defender better. Alas I can but dream. 😃 ❤ James

How on earth does an LS3 engined Defender stay on the road? They're over-powered with the 4 cyl Puma

I suppose that's the question- if a 3.2 is £15k.. how much to replace a dead 2.2 for example? 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2 |
