Dual Batteries
Who on here has it fitted, with a split charge (intellegent one)

What did you go for/what are the options/who fitted it?

Im starting to think along those lines so would be interested in learning... Mike

I have a National Luna split charger install. See http://www.nationalluna.com/battery_systems.htm.

However i would not recomend to have a complet intelligent system as there is some setting that would lead to additional trouble shooting if one day you can not start your car.

I got a Dual Battery Isolator with two Dual Battery Monitor (one in cab for indication of charge of the primary/power battery and the first deep cycle for cab fridge and main freezer/fridge in Alu cab, and a second Dual Battery Monitor in rear of teh alu cab to monitor the primary and secondary deep cycle battery).

Make sure you use big wire to limit the losses and pull negative cable.

Also have a look at http://www.bushpower.co.za/homepage.asp. They have great product for 4x4 and bush proof.

Thanks.

I think your correct, what i should have said (and what ive looked at) is systems that leave the original system alone and does its magic on the second battery on. So if all goes wrong your car starts.

My disco has a simple split charge. But i am interested in the electronics of the new 90 and any impact and i suppose mounting...isnt the tray different design? Mike

Hi

I have the National Luna system in my TD5 90. Normal cranking battery and a 110 Amphour leasure for the fridge etc.
Having the system made me look closer when it came to the Puma and I went for the Genesis management system with twin Odyssey batteries. Niether system has let me down but the flexibility of having two batteries that can crank or deep cycle seems worth having. You could of course have that with the Luna system, just buy the batteries. The digital readout with the Genisis is better for me, but the led display on the luna keeps you informed of battery state.
The Genisis system gives you a monitored 20 amp output that will self disconnect if battery voltage goes too low.
Because I wanted more than 20 amps I chose not to use the said 20 Amp output, and connected my secondary fuse board directly to the aux battery. This means I do have to monitor the the voltage because if it goes too low the sytem will not then recognise there is a battery there and will not charge it. Whats broken now ?
