Should get my car back from the dealers tomorrow after it broke a half shaft. The car has done 59k. Anyone else managed to break one?

I have had clients break half shafts - Driving up a slippy slope they apply power, too much will induce wheel spin the TC applies the brakes to the spinning wheels = bang goes the drive shafts. Censored happens some times Thumbs Up

Safe now with a 130 we dont have TC Razz 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Then you're just moving the stress point down the line - cv joints. if you uprate those, next stop is the gearbox..

I'd rather break a half shaft than anything else in that chain to be honest.

i always thought that the biggest risk was rebound when climbing, by that i mean, hard accelaration up hill and a wheel looses all traction due to a bounce then as it starts to spin and take all the power it comes back down and gains full traction, like over a tree root or rock, the shock wave of power then pops somthing, usually a half shaft.

no claims that this is fact just my understanding.

this is also from the point of view of no axle lockers and no TC.

p.s half shafts have been replaced on mine at 40k not due to a conpleate fail but excess movment due to spline damage.

its true you do move the stress point to other elements but they tend to be stronger as you go up the line anyway.

i have had no problems with gearbox or T boxes running 37" Fedimas on ashcrofts with ARBs front and rear for 5 years. and its been used hard.

But then Tc broke a std shaft at work on a puma! Cheers

It is, you're right. You can break them in other ways too but the most common is shock loading.

Thats why I put a switch on the TC, I noticed the axle tramp on the ninty a couple of months ago driving up some big sand dunes. I think an air locker or two and turning the TC of is the way to go.
