In the desire for more horses, we all know of the classic upgrades. ECU Remap, Larger intercooler, silicon hoses, straight through de-cat exhaust, EGR removal, better air filter, improved airbox and cool air intake and a VG Turbo. I think most who have done this, DIY or Stage 3 upgrade, see approx 200bhp. However, has anyone messed around with throttle bodies, camshafts, pistons and headers or is that pointless on a 2.4 or with a diesel engine? Also, has anyone considered a twin-turbo set up?

I haven't.
![]() ![]() Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

I would of liked those sort of figures, however ambient temperatures rule that out for any sort of engine life! However that been said, look at the LS3!

I believe 200+ hp and 500+ Nm was achieved previously. couldn't possibly confirm if internals are now in progress or not ...
on that note what sort of Nm to the ls3 achieve ? |

Just to elaborate on my throttle body post.
diesels vacuum draw the air required. Therefore on most diesels up to Euro 4 (inc 2.4 puma I believe) there's no throttle body. The 2.2 Euro5 does, but it's purpose is to improve the vacuum for drawing EGR gases for Euro 5, rather than for performance. |

You can get allot of power out of them but it'll become massively laggy, it's not cheaper to get an engine swap but the drive-ability will be better with a big merc or cummins diesel.... however I (personally) wouldn't do that to a late defender
If your Defender is a toy/2nd car, then I don't see much harm and a good sequential turbo setup might be the ticket, if it's your only car... i'd advise against it and buy an SUV like an X5. 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

a 5 cylinder 3.2 Puma engine is probably a better upgrade.
Lorry engines sound cool, but they're noisy for every day use, not very clean and thirsty. |

for the expense of it, the ls3 is more viable... |

Cummins can be done for a fraction of the price of the 3.2 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

Just mulling over options. Might be able to do a full Stage 2 Bowler plus VGT in the next couple of months. Was wondering what else could be done at the same time. However, as of yesterday, a new deal might make the LS3 an option. But given I am developing a business concept, plus we may finally be tackling the renovation of our barn (400sqm
