What is a big green egg. I understand the shape and colour but what do you do with it?

A Big Green Egg is a charcoal barbecue/oven and is based on Japanese design. We got ours about four years ago. They are ceramic, egg shaped with a lid and are extremely good at very hot quick cooking (steak) and very long slow relatively cool cooking (pulled pork, brisket). We also cook stews, grilled veg and pizzas are great. Temperature is controlled by a low level sliding door and a high level daisywheel. It looks impossible to control but it doesn't take long to precisely set a cooking temperature. They are very efficient with respect to charcoal use as old coals can be reused and they don't take as long to heat as a traditional BBQ so you can be up and running in 15 minutes.
Their website is very good and explains a lot better than I can. They are so popular there is an 'Eggfest' in America annually and there are quite a few high end restaurants using them now. Downside. They are quite pricey and our large version is not very portable due to the weight. You also need to burn good quality charcoal ( not garage sold briquettes). Oh, and you will be your Butchers best friend. Meat bills will increase! It's best to know a really good butcher as we do. I have no links to Big Green Egg, I just have one and think they are great. Ours gets used all year. We even cook the Christmas Turkey on it. |

We got the dolce gusto bug a while back, on our third machine now. Never buy the double pod drinks, I just put half a cup of milk in the microwave for 90secs then make the coffee in it.
Tip for anyone in a hard water area, we buy the cheapo bottled water (about 20p for 2 litres) from the supermarket makes the coffee taste so much better. And the tea if used in the kettle for that matter. Waste of money........ now, where did I put that fondue set? Ah, found it. Tacx turbo trainer. I think WHY did'nt I buy one years ago!
Bought it to help with rehab after spinal surgery last September, no worries about weather, potholes in road or traffic. It's has bluetooth so transmits usage/performance data to the ipad and various training programmes or video routes can be downloaded from Tacx's website. Great gadget. ![]() Click image to enlarge |

I have tacx rollers
![]() I don't do gadgets, except an iPhone and iPad (both were free!) Mrs Greeni bought an Amazon Firestick, I put it on once and watched a couple of Hotrod programmes on, that's all. There's certainly no room in the kitchen for coffee machines and such. There's not even a stereo in the 90! |
