United Kingdom 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Orkney Grey
[withdrawn] Globemaster Overland Trailer and Roof Tent
Bought this secondhand from Trek Overland a few years ago and have hardly used it over the last two years. We're going to the Pyrenees this year but have decided to take the Discovery and a ground tent rather than the Defender and a trailer.

I did take it across Salisbury for a day to test how good it was off road. It was amazing, followed in the tracks of the defender perfectly, but following a muddy slippy side slope and a terrifying muddy hill climb, I decided that I didn't want to be in a difficult position with a trailer behind. Kids have also grown up in the meantime and we don't all fit in it. It's probably a bit too extravagant to keep just in case.

Metallic green trailer on a 2.5 TON braked axle, galvanized chassis, stainless steel bodywork

3 x 16 Cooper Discoverer STT tyres on silver painted Modular Land Rover wheels

Howling Moon trailer tent and ladder

2 x Jerry can holders mounted on front doors

2 x gas bottle storage compartments

Swing away spare wheel carrier

2 x Gel filled deep cycle batteries (replaced with new ones last year)

Battery mounting brackets

Battery charging system from vehicle to trailer (anderson socket) and with inverter to provide 240V. Also allows connection to electrical hook up in campsites. Includes extension cable and adapters to use European hookups.

National Luna 80ltr fridge freezer

4 x Hella 12 volt male/female connectors

Interior kitchen light

Kitchen unit in wood & crockery for 4 people

4 x clothes drawers with mounting bracket

Pull out Table

2 x Jerry cans

Heavy duty water tank (70litres, I think), with manual tap

Key alike padlocks (20)

Verandah and side walls for rear and side of tent (makes huge enclosed space).

Front awning to protect fridge in nose cone from rain.

New PVC roof tent cover

Has been stored inside for the last three years except for the few occasions it has been used.

Bad points:

Hella electrical sockets use chassis/bodywork for earth and have become loose and a little flakey. I've bought replacement sockets, but not got around to rewiring them all with proper negative cable back to batteries. Perhaps just tightening them up would work.

Zip to allow access to clothes drawers when tent erected has been damaged. Tricky to open now, probably needs to be replaced/repaired. We found this difficult/awkward to use anyway and found it best to remove all cases/drawers from the storage side of the trailer the one time for easy access while camped.

Mesh guard to stop you rolling out of the high level bed at night not fitted (previously inner cotton tent was washed and tumble dried before we got it - plastic mesh melted). A replacement was sent from South Africa, but the wrong size. I still have the clips from the old mesh, so you could sew up your own version. I just used a fold up baby's bed guard to stop anyone rolling out inadvertently and it folds flat under the mattress for storage. I also added some dry mesh matting under the mattress to reduce condensation - it has seemed to work well - no longer need to lift the mattress and air each day.

I was in the process of fitting a Webasto airtop 3500 to provide warm air heating to the tent. My wife has decreed that this is unacceptable, she's nervous about diesel fumes getting in the tent. Webasto will be removed and the holes in the floor of the front nose cone patched with stainless sheet.
