Think it is just good old rust. Happened on my tdi aswell over time. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Can you see any bare metal rub marks on the door, that will tell you? Can't tell from the picture but if it is rubbing it's only a bit so you should be able to hang the door better!

I had the same thing. I used a hammer to lightly tap it down/bend the strip as it was not perfectly flat. Problem solved.

Thanks all... I'll have a look later to see if the strip can't be seated better or the door hung better.
I did notice that one of the screw heads (the right-most one) one the screws that hold the strip down had snapped off. It was never fully screwed down, and whoever was installing it must've snapped the head off and left it. Nice. Good thing I noticed it now, and didn't discover by accident by cutting myself on it. |

Mine suffered badly from this problem - more the steel plate being too high than the door being out of alignment. Replaced and better fitted plate under warranty and paint repaired on the door frame - BUT - the screws used in fitting are dome-headed, and I noticed recently that one near the opening side is catching on the door bottom.
So I think I'll be seeking more suitable fixings rather than going back to he dealers yet again (this isn't the only snag I've had over the past 2 years!!) 1953 80 1965 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce Sprint 1980 Fiat 124 Spider 2008 110xs |

Just a side note having just seen the pic of that rusty sill trim: got a mail tonight from a guy at Redback 4x4 who makes replacement stainless steel sill trims for the tailgate and front doors for pre 1991 Defenders. He's about to start producing the same for current model Defenders. I've told him to let me know when they're ready as I definitely want a set.
I was contemplating folding up some stainless sheet on the bender at work as I couldn't find anything available commercially, but Looks like I won't have to now. Pete |

First i thought this strip was galvernised...i wouldnt see the point of changing it from what it is...was fine on the 20yr old defender, you cant even see it with the door shut.
Just get the door to shut properly! Mike |

Thanks for the Entreq links, I hadn't seen those products before, and at a couple of hundred euros plus shipping for the three trims I'd need, I don't think I will be seeing them!
I can buy a lot of A2 sheet for that. Regards Pete |
