Lack of Lights
Big Black is throwing her toys out of the pram again...

On my way back from North Yorkshire and put the lights on as it was starting to get dark. Get's a bit darker and I thought the lights didn't seem to be lighting up all that much. Turns out only the sidelights are working.

Put the side lights on and the dull dip-dim lights come on as normal, but put dipped beam on and they go out again. High beam works as normal.

LRA coming out tomorrow morning to have a gander.

Oh joy!

Guess I could think of it as an additional security device. If someone robs off with it they won't see where they're going, and because theres not much diesel in it they won't get far if they do... Every cloud eh!

For such a young vehicle I would not expect the light stalk to have a problem. 10+ years yes

When we sell Lightforce lights as additional driving lights we recommend that they are NOT wired through the normal light stalk.

This means that they are NOT road legal in the UK however they do provide a completely seperate light system if your main lightstalk burns out

I have a set of 240 XGT Lightforces and have used a tap off the main beam feed for the relay coil for the lights in series with an independant illuminated switch! The few milliamps required to pull on the relay won't have any adverse effects on the main beam stalk contacts and can be independently selected or deselected by means of the dash switch! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

We must all remember who makes the light stalk. Mr Lucas aka the Prince of darkness,I believe he patented the short circuit. Its never over in my land rover.

My lights (and Defender lights in general) are so poor on dipped, I sometimes wonder if they are also broken!!

Main beam is fairly decent.

Anyone retro fitted xenons to a Defender? Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

TBH fitting Xenons on a Defender raises quite a few questions, In the end I went for a LED solution thats e marked as well and lets say the results are great.

By no means a cheap solution but IMHO a proper solution

Ken - any details? LED lights are the way forward IMO.

My bike like has six XPG LEDs kicking out up to 1700 lumens - more than a car headlight on main beam!

Two of them (I tested two for a review) on my bike on the BM roof (BM lights in full beam):
