Expansion tank cap - Emergency Fix
Morning All. Just a quick fix for a leaking expansion cap when you are in a pinch.

I noticed my cap has been leaking down the side of the tank, so checked the cap. Over the last few years (since the cap was last replaced) the rubber seal inside the cap has hardened and deformed (you can see the deep ring pressed in to the rubber).

As a super quick fix and not a long term solution you can extract the rubber seal with your ignition key, turn it over and replace in the cap.

Obviously this will only work if the rubber seal is still viable. If it is cracked or split then it is time to break out the emalgamating tape.

It is also worth flushing out the pressure valve at the same time to make sure there isn't any grit hiding away and it is able to move freely.

That doesn't seem to be a genuine cap, is that a temporary one anyway?

It's worth replacing the cap during a service or every other service, they're not expensive.

Even the genuine ones have problems with the relief valve in them failing open, the advantage with the Genuine ones is they have a visual indicator to check the condition of the valve (the dot inside should be in the middle of the cross)

It's a Rover bulletin, but it's the same cap from the Rover Group parts bin.

Likewise Thumbs Up

The cap pictured is not a genuine LR cap, but a general after market PCD100160 version. Seem to come in yellow, biege and black colours and pretty much fit most LR models.
