All
On going saga of the corners - I will post full details and pictures at the weekend

Please do NOT buy them
- they do not accommodate rear mud flaps,
- the returns are to long and rub against the wheel arch eyebrows, which in my case has caused damage to the paint.

Briefly I had cut a small slot in the corners to accommodate the mud flaps which I was happy with
It was oinly once the corners had been fitted and I was travelling down the motorway I head resonating from the rear which was the corner rubbing against the eyebrow and had rubbed through the paint (70 mile traveled that day)

Nakatanenga did state they would be fabricating brackets to accommodate the mud flaps - where are they?
Nakatanenga dis state they would sent spacers to move the corners further back (spacers on spacers!!!) these have not been sent

So if I took the corners off and returned for a refund I will still have to deal with the paint damage to the rear cross member where the corners where bolted on and the damage to the wheel arch eyebrows
I will have to buy mud flaps to replace those I slightly modified to suit.

I have not had a good experience with Nakatanenga or 4x4 Overlander and I will not be using either again

The brackets for the mudflaps are under construction. This takes time.

The corners are initially designed for vehicles without mudflaps.

The spacers have been sent to Brendan

We have sold a lot of the sets without complaints.

Am I missing something here?

1. Bought item
2. Item doesn't fit
3. Sent emails over Christmas
4. Got impatient
5. Modified item without instruction
6. Noticed item still doesn't fit
7. Publically criticise manufacturer and supplier

Don't really understand your grievance. It's annoying when things don't fit but it happens - by the sounds of things you bought one of the first sets in the UK, issues occur.

Why you didn't just pack them up and send back straight away I don't know, that doesn't even need communication with the supplier. Put it back in its box and post back with a letter explaining why. Last thing I'd consider doing is taking a saw to something that costs £425, without any idea if it'd fix the issue of them not fitting.

IMO 4x4overlander and Nakatanenga owe you nothing, yet regardless they make you bespoke spacers FOC and Brendan offers you 'possibly/probably' a refund. And yet you still rant and rave like you're hard done by.

I just don't even... Confused

I must say I have only ever heard excellent things about Barbra and Brendan and the service they provide Thumbs Up

This very much looks to me like a case of severe impatience! The normal process if something is wrong is to contact the supplier or return the item. Not to go at it with a grinder! Shocked

I can only speak highly of Brendan and Barbara. Brendan has always been extremely helpful in giving me assistance when I have had a query either prior to or after a purchase and the items I have purchased have been of a very high standard. Perhaps your best way forward is to talk with Brendan away from the public domain? 2015 HT XS 90

Due to the contents of certain emails floating around I am going to be very circumspect about what I put on a public forum!

I first become aware that the corner protectors would not fit a 90 with mudflaps when I gave Mike (who helps us out part time and he is not a mechanic) the job of fitting a set to one of our 90's It took Mike less then 2 minutes to realise that the design of the corner protectors would NOT fit our 90's with mudflaps. I spoke to Peter at Nakatanenga immediately and yes the design were for 90's without mudflaps.

Later that day (21/22 Dec) found out that Ian had discovered the same thing. I spoke to Ian on the phone and told him we would resolve the issue however that it might take some time due to the time of the year and that factories etc were closed.

Now I made MY MISTAKE and did not insist on getting them returned to us straight away. Couriers are rather busy at that time of the year!

From Christmas onwards got a series of emails with questions/requests which confounded me and NO I did not respond to them all straight away.

The spacers were ready for despatch on 16th January arrived on the two pallets on 26th January. Yes it takes a little time to unpack two pallets. On 27th January Ian publicly declares it as a 'bodge' our attempt to sort out his issues. Now is there any sense in incurring more expense on sending out something which is condemned already as a bodge?

From 27th January

Quote:

Now these spacers were ready for despatch on Monday 16th January, collected a day late on Tuesday 17th January by the couriers which is not a bad timescale since Christmas, New Year and public holidays in Germany. The pallets departed Germany on Monday 23rd January and were delivered to us on Thursday 26th January and partially unpacked on Friday 27th January.

Now the offer of the spacers FOC still stand (I have not unpacked these spacers to inspect them yet) or return the corner protectors to us for inspection.

Now to reassure people, both Peter at Nakatanenga and Barbara and I at 4x4 Overlander are determined to provide good quality items with decent levels of advice and service. If there are any issues with any items we provide please let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to resolve the issues as soon as possible. Please be realistic with time scales. If you need advice on how to fit something please ask me. If I do not know the answer I will tell you so and then do my best to find out the correct information. If an item does not fit let us know and get it back to us as soon as possible.

I started typing this at 1 pm and then got broke off for various phone calls and visitors. Thank you for your kind words of support people.

Brendan

Why would you modify them without waiting for a response from the sellor?
I've purchased a couple items from 4x4 Overlander and all items have been top quality and I've been more than happy with both the quality and service.
I would not hesitate to purchase from 4x4 Overlander in the future.

For £425 I wouldn't even try and put them on the car for fear of scratching, HOW MUCH!?!

1. Bought item - Delvered 21-12-16)
2. Item doesn't fit - Advised Item did not fit smae day and had reply same day where Nak stated they they had realise dthere was a problem and would be fabricating brackets to accept the mud flap, surely this isd not hard to do 7 weeks later still not sorted, I am and engineer and family has a fabrication shop - I can not see how brackets can be mad utilising the corners as supplied
3. Sent emails over Christmas - Sent e-mails over christmas Yes
4. Got impatient - " NO as I did not carry out mods till the 7th Jan 2017
5. Modified item without instruction - Incorrect no replay is as good as acception of proposals made as stated I did not carry out mods till the 7th
6. Noticed item still doesn't fit - completely unrelated issue where there was futher fabrication issue where the return is to long, as I have already stated the original mod to the accept the mud flap would havde been accdeptable, bu tthe units having further defect ewhere once fitted it was ascertained after driving the vehisle that the returns were to long and dmaged the paint work on my vehicle though poor design
7. Publically criticise manufacturer and supplier - please read th epost correctly my e-mails were being ignored - what would you have done

Don't really understand your grievance. It's annoying when things don't fit but it happens - by the sounds of things you bought one of the first sets in the UK, issues occur.

Again please read my post - and look up on internet "“If an item causes damage to your property through no fault of your own, you may have a legal right to claim compensation (also known as claiming ‘damages’).”
The item is of poor design and as such damaged my vehicle
Also on taking these corners off there will be (is) paint damage to the cross member, if replacement corners correctly designed manufactured are offered to me I will accept, or a partial refund. I will not return the corners for a refund and be left with damage to repair at my cost - this I will dseak re-imbursment for
I trust this is now clear

One unhappy customer who knows his rights

I have shown the product to quite a few people (many of which are 4x4 owners and once they had witnessed what has been fabricated and what I had done they are shocked and suprised at the issues I am currrently having - was at Land Rover experience yesterday(been there a few time corporate visits etc) as I took my wife there to have a day playing off road in an evoque and even showed them
I can not post what they said

I will post my other e-mails - I do hope you do not have the same issues with me with anything you buy (no infact I do)

Purchased on the 21st Dec, e-mails send (quite a few) had no reply to my e-mails where I made proposals to what could be done to make them fit, even asked a specific question if the integrity would be compromised y my proposal.
Had no replies so made slight alteration cutting a small 30mm x 25mm notch out of the bracket and on fitting them on the 7th Jan 2017 them realized that there was an issue with the length of the return this was evident after a 70mile drive.
So first issue would have been acceptable and blatant obvious problem which I overcome, as we all know stuff for Defenders quite often need slight mod to make fit
second issue down to poor design where returns are slightly to long and rub against the wheel arch at speeds over 50mph

So by not responding, contractually this can be perceived as acceptance of my proposals

I note fan club rallying - some people slag certain main dealers - for example I use Stratstone Newport and have no issues with them whats so ever having a Range Rover and Land Rover
All horses for courses.

I have posted issue I have had as honesty as I can and will if necessary post all the e-mails up.

Iktank help me out here because I think I am missing something. Your an "engineer" and have a connection to a fabrication business so have an understanding of fabrication works, you purchase a well made product and you discover upon offering it up to your defender it doesnt seem to fit?
I would then imagine your "engineering" mind kicks in looking for possible solutions as to how this can fit because its designed for the defender and purpose you want to fit.
After some head scratching you think you have come up with an engineering solution, which whilst not ideal because the expensive product you have purchased doesnt fit straight away you believe your engineered idea will give you a possible solution.
Your proceed with your engineering solution and whilst not what you intended to do when you purchased them it has now enabled you to fit the corner protectors.
Having fitted them you discover your engineered solution whilst solving the initial fitting problem has now uncovered another problem that they have rubbed your eyebrows causing the paint damage.
Hopefully so far I have understood your dilemma?
If I have and this is where I am struggling would it not have been better not to have progressed with your own engineering solution and gone back to the supplier?
Whilst I appreciate you say no one responded to your emails, you could if need be prove you had tried reasonably to contact them if things ended up going the legal route but you still proceeded to modify and fit the corner protectors yourself with your own " engineered solution" which have then damaged your paintwork, no one told you to modify them you made that choice and in doing so you damaged your own paintwork so how does your statement and I quote " If an item causes damage to your property through no fault of your own you may have a legal right to claim compensation" stack up? The cause of the damage to the paintwork may have been caused by your own engineered solution. Or have I missed something? 2015 HT XS 90
