if a different light lights up in its place then sounds like a busted unit, no? Cheers, David

Have you checked earth continuity?
Check rear loom earth strap to transfer box and then finally gearbox switch. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Thumbs Up Most common issue for the reverse light is either earthing or switch.
If there is power present then it can't be any issue on the positive sid elf things.
LED's are very sensitive to changes in voltage and poor earth.
I'd remove the transfer box earth strap, clean bolt, mating faces and fit tighten but not over tight.

May be a good idea to soak in WD40 the night before, and go easy undoing it.

That's my guess as to the issue but could still be the switch Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Like all diodes.Light emitting ones are polarity sensitive.
Cheers

Hey thanks for all the advise I have checked everything and done the earth strap and still no joy so of to the dealers as its under warranty so they can sort it along with the side step issue and rear tub leaks and rusted rear seat hinge as a result of the leak, carpets binned as they smell........... If the dealer tells me the truth I will post what they found as soon as its done.

Thanks again Bow down

Assume the fog does not work in the reverse position?

Sorry - this was answered above.

In this case it's not the lamp, it's likely to be the reverse switch.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Hi Martin, the only thing I didn't do as I'm time strapped was bypass the reverse switch as I did think that perhaps the switch was causing some slight resistance but from memory with a meter at the fitting end at the rear I was reading 12.25v once in reverse..... I'm thinking it's the switch as that's the only thing I haven't checked correctly..........

I've seen this before, you see 12V at the reverse light connector but the lamp can't pull the current through the switch. The voltage drops away as soon as a lamp is connected.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Oh ok hopefully that's what it is and the switch is the issue , I will mention to the dealers as I'm not a huge fan of them given the issues I have had.......... Thanks Martin.
