Don't quite understand - The iPad had GPS build in...... Why do you need an external GPS? 2003 90 XS SW

the iPad wifi version does not have a built in GPS. the one which does is the 3G version.

Correct iPad with 3G has both data and gps - wifi version doesn't.
On jail breaking I can't see the point yet...although it has some advantages...I'll wait! I know apple tried to stop you jailbreakng and lost the us court case...I'm not sure what that means. I have the 3G version ![]() |

If you have just the wifi version then you dont have gps (it does but not activated). Now you can't just buy a bluetooth GPS as the ipad doesnt have a generic bluetooth stack. In other words it will need an app to make it find and connect to the gps.
Apple doesnt provide this so you will need to jailbreak it. The latest jailbreak is 'tethered' which means if you power off your ipad you will need to connect it to the pc and jailbreak it again. No issuse really as the battery life is so long. Anyway here is a guide. Pom |

Didn't I explain all that pom?
![]() the BTGPS STACK app allows you to connect with an external GPS, there is a long list of compatible devices on the apps website and for anyone else who wants to connect to an iPad via bluetooth (with any device for any reason), there is an app called RoqyBT which gets around mr Jobs rather selfish decision to only allow bluetooth tethering with certain products. with roqyby you can connect anything to an iPad or an iPhone. |

The all metal case wouldnt make it work on the WIFi version anyway...hence the 3g has the plastic top for signal ![]() |

Thought so - ive got the free one...just wondered if someone had cracked it! Ive seen both types Shame its seems the wrong way round - you buy the maps you pay for the use on the ipad but not on my garmin gps Mike |

Buy a Vye got everything including DVD drive and 80gb memory, downside is a little heavy needs a good mount, still think AndrewS flip up screen and carputer looks ideal.

My point is i have the maps - but you think you would get the free ipad app when you own the maps (doesnt cost a thing to put them on my garmin) and paid app to buy them for your ipad! The full ipad comes with everything you need and hardly weighs anything with a 10hr battery! Mike |
