Should I be carrying my UK driving license on me when I cross the border into the Republic?

We have to carry our licence all the time in Ireland. There is no physical border anymore just signs to Welcome you Very Happy and your first sight of a km road sign. It makes sense that drivers do carry a license regardless of the country as they are so convenient in size and it must make the police forces job less time consuming dealing with drivers.
But with Brexit , there is a massive question over how the border will be policed.
What part are you travelling to ?

Was just planning another trip into Donegal - last time I went I never bothered taking my licence and this time I wondered if it was a legal requirement, a nice to have or no-one really cares. Thanks for your responses

What I have commented on before - was the Co Donegal anti-Defender policy of putting steel (height restriction) barriers across the entrances to public Car Parks. A sort of anti-tourism barrier which means parking up to spend money in the local economy becomes problematic.

Lovely scenery and I want to see Malin Head this trip - and those giant waves coming in all the way from America.
