Sounds like a sensible balance between doubling the weight of a defender and making it a nicer place to ride.
Have you thought about adding some to the doors ? |

Am I the only one with a station wagon with full factory carpet finding the truck pretty quiet as is? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Eric,
No I don't believe you are. I have a CSW with factory carpet and don't find it too noisy. That said I had to replace the rear carpet and did it with some cheap hardwearing carpet and underlay and that doesn't appear to be as good as the original but still more than bearable. It was the only way at the time to get rid of the wet mouldy horse smell. Phil 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

I had mine fully insulated, top, sides, bottom and under the bonnet. I have full carpets as well. It's made a massive difference both in sound and heat insulation. I can park it in full sun (38C in the shade temps) and the cabin stays comfortable. Before there was no way I could sit in it without running the aircon for 15 minutes. Best thing I had done to it I'd say.

I always discounted the doors as i a)couldnt be bothered b)have waxoyled it c)dont like taking the door cards off loads of times as its a pain or the rain seal eventually breaks, or a pin breaks...after doing what i did, i now dont think its needed so im happy - same with the roof, we have the black headlining and swear thats better than the standard. my doors dont rattle so im happy
you wont now im afraid - it was a amazon prime special deal on prime customers day - offer was for the trade pack £40 and a few pence
the 90 was a CSW XS, full carpet and i think the carpet adds a lot - certainly in ours, the front wont be having any more than the factory sound proofing which is perfect i think
its certainly heavy ![]() and i have sheets left over ![]() |

Don't you guys have problems with the insulation panels trapping moisture?

I thought that too before I had mine done. The reduction in noise is huge however. My main reason for having it done was heat insulation and that has been a huge success. Perhaps not something to be bothered about if you live in the UK though.

Although i havent and dont intend to do the roof (which is black) and the sides have their own inserts, ive noticed a temperature reduction too. Mike
