Changing headlights for use in Europe
I'm a D3 owner, but am looking at buying a RHD Defender (either a TD5 or possibly a 300TDi) in either the UK or Ireland to take to keep in France. One of the things that needs to be done is to change the headlights so they shine the other way. Can anyone shed any light on how easy this is to do? How much would this likely cost, and how easy is it to get the parts?

Thanks in advance...

If you look at some of the parts specilists they have LHD headlights at around £15 per unit or you could invest £1.50 in a roll of black tape. 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

I put some of those beam blocker stick-on things, I think I paid £6.50 or something.

They're kinda rubbish, but they appear to do the job. The only downside is that it appears the range of your headlamps is reduced a bit.

Thanks guys. Sticky tape not an option as the Defender will have to pass the French equivalent of the MOT and has to have proper 'left hand' lights. £15 a unit is my kind of price though Thumbs Up

Though, from ken's comment, maybe I should take the chance to upgrade the lights too while I'm in there. Are there any options out there for fitting better 'standard' headlights (albeit left hand ones), as opposed to fitting extra spots etc.?

I run the Cibie Valeo 7" standard swap for the originals you can get them in left and right hand drive beam pattern they are a great cheap upgrade, i went silly on the bulbs PIAA chrome but they are superb.

I dont do the tape thing when going abroad 15mins and the headlight units are swapped easy if you have a spare set of rings 7 scrwes a side job done.

Got mine from Europa web site If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.
