Gearbox sensor? Aft of the bleed, just before the TrnsfrBox
Gidday,

On my latest excursion under the vehicle I found some cable looms a-twistin', long story short: I don't fancy their long term prospects like this.

A fix would involve unplugging what I assume (?) is a sensor (2 wires) that goes into the top of the housing near the connection with the transfer box, it's on the LHS, a foot aft or so from the clutch bleed valve.

What is that connection? Is it OK to temporarily unplug without tripping some engine management alarm or other thing I don't know about? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

It sounds to me as though you're describing the reversing light switch.

There are no sensors as such anywhere on the transmission. There are however the reversing light switch (on the upper n/s of the main gearbox), and two switches on the o/s upper front of the transfer box (high/low range and difflock wraning lights). There are some points where various harnesses are secured to clips etc. as well.

Does it look like this?

OK, I'll unplug it.

I got a new clutch at 100000km, suspect mech didn't put to much care into reinstalling the cable harnesses to the correct spots. The cables for this switch are under an unhappy tension. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

I was underneath, but yeah it does look familiar. I didn't realise it was so close to the lever, that quite often happens between top side and down.
