Took 1 month to get there with 2 kids and the missus . Through all countries into Turkey and a weeks stop in Istanbul with a sick child . Great trip through Turkey into Batumi and to Tbilisi .
Girls flew back and i drove myself home . Weather was great , lots of coffee at the fuel stops and just kept moving as I was ( in the Zone ) half way through Greace I made the mistake of pulling over to help someone and was held up by the local nobs ( black BMW and clothes ) showing me the handgun in the chest pocket .robbed me of €250 . I'm not competing with anyone but thought I might win this one . There is talk of going again . Or to St Petersburg . Cheers . |

I thought 500 miles in our TD5 pickup was bad enough

These are some epic road trips.
The main issue for us was, that it was a hot day, and all methods of letting cool air in while at speed on the motorway were excessively noisy. We eventually settled on rear door windows open about 30%. The Defender coped fine even in standard tune we never felt it wanting for power. |

I towed an Ifor tri-axle from here in Sconny Botland to Grafty's place in North Devon and back in one day. I was back in the yard by 5.00 pm after 840ish miles. Took half an hour or so to load otherwise the only stops were for fuel.
Can't think of anything I'd have preferred to make the trip in ![]() ![]() |

For long trips I use my D3 V8. The longest trip in my 90 in one go is only 250 km, I pulled it over longer distance in one go with my D3.
![]() The longest I will drive is about 1200-1300km and that is enough for a day. ![]() 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

Lots of "open spaces" in Aussie, so Gracie's taken us over 1000 klms in a day on several occasions,....which is where that 6th gear really comes into its own.....makes long distance cruising a breeze.

Took my son to Canterbury Cathedral, from Lancaster and back in a day, he was graduating at the cathedral in Ophthalmic’s . All the motorways along the route were having work undertaken and some were down to 30mph, it took over seven hours to reach Canterbury, a little better on the return but still took six hours. Got to say I was impressed with the Dartford crossing bridge. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
