2001 TD5 Best diag tool?

Hi, I have recently bought a 2001 TD5. About 46k, 1 owner and I am trying to learn all I can about the vehicle.

I would like to have an immobilizer on the Defender and reading on the forum it may all ready have the capability as I have found the Lucas AS10 box! OK, they all have them!!

It would appear the previous owner passed on the vehicle to the dealer with a key-fob included. It's a Sigma M series M800 transponder immobilizer and there is an LED (that does nothing) in the dash (not speedo). There is no keypad also which can be included in the Sigma stuff I believe.

There is no exciter ring around the ignition barrel although there seems to have been a few wires taped up so a unit could have been removed.

With this in mind could I get the AS10 to act as an immobilizer? Reading the forum it seems as if it can. Is this a recommended option?

Looking around on the site the "Nanocom" box name keeps cropping up. Can this be used on my vehicle for all thing diagnostic and to update/interrogate the AS10. I don't have an OBDii connector, just a rectangular connector between the seats. Are there any other diag options?

I intend to hang onto this Defender for a long while, my first, so would be reasonably happy to buy a unit if it could do everything.

Sorry to go wittering on but hopefully you understand what I am on about. Thumbs Up

Also apologizes about the monkey, I couldn't find a way to delete him!

Nanocom is the best choice (in my humble opinion)

I'm thinking about starting a group buy for one to bring the price down a tad (hopefully) TD5 Defender 90

Peeps hate Britpart,`but "I" not so. Britpart Lynx diagnostics was "built" by the same peeps that built Landrover's own factory diagnostics (Omitec). I has Britpart Lynx,I used it for brakes/ABS reasons Sad . Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Nanocomm is the the best but a tad pricey. I picked up a really inexpensive iCarsift 930 which can read and clear any Td5 code (engine and ABS). It also provides some live data but cannot reset or change anything. For $120 Cdn it was well worth it as it reads the missus's MkIII Range Rover as well.

Thanks for the reply Guys. If there is a consortium going in for a number of units let me know! Looks like the Nanocomm then.

I'd probably be interested in a Nanocom group buy too.
