Rover v8 carb tuning
Does anyone know of a good place to get 3.5 twin su carbs tuned in Hampshire, preferable south east. Mine appear to be unbalanced and when going over about 60 they will struggle to run, I'm no expert on these engines but I'm assuming they'd need balancing anyway? 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

That's a bit far away, I'm right on the Hampshire/Sussex boarder. I'll keep it in mind though, any other suggestions are appreciated Thumbs Up 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Assuming they are SU carbs?

they are fairly simple to set up with no special tools needed,
loads of videos and websites with all the know how, I enjoy tinkering with mine (carbs that is) Whistle

Yes SU carbs, I have been under the impression you'd need specialist experience to tune or balance them properly. May have a go over the weekend then, what's the worst that could happen Laughing 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

No, I have the original air filter pipework but it goes into the air box from a normal car, Rover 75 I think? 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

I fitted K&N cone filters direct on the the carbs and had a similar problem to you,
I came to the conclusion that they were getting to much air & not enough fuel through them at full throttle when running the standard needles
Runs & performs much better on the standard induction system

My problem could be similar but the other way around, the air box fitted is tiny. My standard air box wouldn't fit between the bulkhead and engine. Do you think a RR efi air box would be a suitable replacement? 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

I had K&Ns on my last V8 with SUs - worked perfectly. You could really hear the carbs suck ! Thumbs Up

There is a book on Tuning SU carbs, which I have somewhere. It explains the process on how to set them up etc.

Get hold of a carb balancer.
