A new Defender, registered as a car, will cost 10.000 to get it on the road.
Only when you buy a utility model (DCPU, HCPU, etc) you can avoid this heavy tax.

Rumors are that soon also this will change .... Embarassed

And in the Netherlands it is even worse!
A Ninety Hartop will cost you 25.200, = without tax, but including all taxes it will set you back 39.761,= ! Big Cry

Currently there is a new 110 SVX for sale at our local dealer. With taxes it is Euro 115.000,- (this is no joke!).
The Special Piet Boon version is Euro 117.000,- (2.4 Puma).

They still have new SVX and other 2.4 Puma's for sale in Holland? Now, with those prices Shocked I'm not surprised about that of course. But, they cannot be sold anymore as since 01-01-2012 you can not register any Euro4 norm cars in the EU anymore, unless they had been registered prior to that date. How does that work there? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

2014 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 SW Corris Grey
I know this is an old topic from 2012, maybe things have changed? I'm confused.

I've just bought a Sept 2014 Puma 90 SW. Mint condition, air con, alloys etc etc, just 5220 KM on the clock. 36900 Euro (roughly 29000 GBP) which seems to compare pretty well with a similar vehicle in the UK from what I can see. Cost of the carte Gris is 381.66 and plates cost 59 . No other taxes as far as I know. Bought from a dealer, not private. I'm in France BTW.

Things haven't changed for the better, unfortunately....

However, yours is most likely registered as a light utility vehicle (2014, check your "carte grise", does it say CTTE or VP?) so the CO2 emission tax wouldn't apply to yours Thumbs Up “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

CTTE means "Camionette", i.e. small truck, or light utility vehicle... “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

^^ Or, in The Netherlands to have to raise your station wagon roof on a new Defender by several cm. Rolling Eyes
Lucky we, 8% VAT is our one and only tax on a new Defender here. Smile That's when those still existed. Crying or Very sad

There's a malice tax for importing them. Goes down each year they get older. And yes, it is that horrific. Sad.

Basically any govt seems to want the vat paid somewhere else when it stays in their country permanently - malice indeed.
