I started to do a few small mods to it. I picked up a set of genuine Freestyle wheels and then put new General Grabbers AT2 tyres on.
Also added a NAS rear step. With the use of a hair dryer I heated up and peeled off the graphics. ![]() Click image to enlarge |

A nice improvement, I was never keen on the graphics.

I drove it around like this and enjoyed it as a second car for about a year. Then with a change of job I decided I would use it as my everyday and only car. I decided that I would take the opportunity to invest in it and get it all sorted out as I wanted it first however. So the rebuild began......
I ordered a Marsland galvanised chassis: ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Sprayed it with etch primer and then chassis black as I like the original look rather than bare galv.

Then it was time to get a rolling chassis sorted. Really feels like progress at this point and also makes it far easier to work as I could move the chassis in and out of the garage.

All back together. In my hurry to get it finished the photo taking got left out sadly.
The sharp eyed amongst you will notice I took the opportunity to change the roof. I picked up a roof without alpines or sunroof in an attempt to stop leaks from above. I decided to spray it Epsom Green Met to match the rest of the body rather than the classic white. ![]() Click image to enlarge |

So I used it as my daily driver for a few years and loved it. Then work changed and I needed to big miles once again so the Defender became a second car.
After a while I started thinking what I would like to change on the Defender. It had bugged me for the last few years that when I rebuilt it I more or less just stripped it off the old chassis and put it onto a new chassis and didn't change much else. So in a moment of boredom I decided I would take it apart and rebuild it as I really wanted it......... |
