I found LV to be approachable, reasonable, efficient and ok with mods on current and previous vehicles. I changed to them on recommendation after NFU hiked their prices year on year. Steve.

Went with Adrian Flux. A bit more than I was paying with Direct Line but as they now refuse to insure me that's irrelevant. AF's cover also includes green lane and off road cover as standard so for some people, that will be a bonus.
I also did try Peter Best who used to do my landie but they won't touch snorkels now either. You've got to wonder how many Landies are running round with effectively no insurance and the owners are blissfully unaware like I was. This is a serious issue and the insurance companies should warn about it. |

Does make you wander why they don't cover it really as it is just a plastic or metal tube.
I bet if you were off road and were damaged in another way they would be the first to say nope you were off road your not covered, so why argue that having an off road modification means they cant insure it if they wont insure what happens off road anyway! I wonder if it's worth pointing out to the insurance companies that a (or is an?) RAI is NOT a snorkel? New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info

FWIW, a greenlane is a public road so it would be illegal for them to not insure you for greenlanes. "Off road" cover will very shortly also become illegal for insurance companies to not provide too. Currently insurance is provided for public roads and other places with public access (like carparks) which is UK law. EU law has recently changed in such a way that means the UK law will also have to change, and means that any use "consistent with the normal function of that vehicle" has to be covered too. https://www.defender2.net/gallery/albums/userpics/16339/cla.pdf |

I'm with Adrian Flux, I declared allmods including a Safari RAI and they cover it no problem.. they can also cover tyres on a thing similar to windscreens where you pay a small excess and dont lose your NCB.. they cover off roading and greenlaining and give forum member discount..
I pay £500 a year, thats for my 200 tdi 90, a 2004 Freelander and a 2011 Freelander for me and the misses.. I didnt think it was that bad.. Worth a call anyway.. unless of course they have recently changed their policy on RAI... My 1986 90 is currently on a full rebuild, with new chassis, Paint etc.. Very much a hybrid, TD5 Chassis, tub & bulkhead with a 200TDI and LT77 GB Painted in Stornoway Grey 2 years off the road, but getting close to completion now |

Just refer to the RAI as being an additional DPF (dust particle filter) confuses the hell out of them

In which case they can simply refuse to insure any vehicle type/model that they choose, snorkels, modifications or not. Which just narrows our choices come renewal time sadly. 3 Landrovers |
