no spray of anything will sort it unfortunately. heres what i would do....
1.) remove your floor plates entirely. 2.) get a cup brush on your drill and remove all the rust you can see. Do this from underneath as well. 3.) paint on your choice of rust converter. fertan, RC900 etc. ACF wont work. you need to convert the rust before painting. 4.) get them painted inside and out. 5.) if your floor plates are bad then do them too. i replaced with ali ones. 6.) replace the seals on the floor plates. 7.) repeat in a few years lol. Id also give your foot wells a check on the outside from inside the wheelarches, especially on the outside bits. There *will* be more rust than you can see. |

Oh blimey
Had hoped for an easier solution. Taking a closer look, I find the upper corners of the bulkhead with bubbly paint and traces of corrosion as well. How to decide when one needs a new bulkhead? |

Fertan is fine and the best option. It will creep into joins and when it dries it will retain it's chemical properties whereupon if it gets damp it will reactivate. It is used prolifically in the marine industry where I work. Later on perhaps when it is dry over a prolonged period you can go over it with ACF50. Dependent on your work ethic and how bad your OCD is you could carry out the above. Up to you really but on a 9 year old vehicle with the water tightness of a colander it is not really surprising. A liberal coating of Fertan perhaps twice a year and it'll last another 9 before perhaps more thorough work is required.

OCD: considerably - truly loving my Defender
unfortunately: Skills: While I love reading the workshop segements in LRO and LRM, picturing myself doing all kinds of work on my Defender, I have to be honest, my skills suck. Albeit improving, I can still do only very little, as I am a documentary filmmaker by trade 
I'll start with spraying Fertan...
... realizing at some point in the next few years, I'll need a proper galvanized bulkhead. Amazingly, my truck is only 8 years old! |

@wyvern: it's absolutely true. I try to see the positive side of it - I am learning new skills!
Now I found small corroded patches on the roof and at the alpine windows. Will stop looking at my car now in such detail. And only enter it after dark  |
