I'd be keen to hear the answer to this one too...
I am considering buying a new Hard Top for daily use but have held back due to all the bad things I have heard re. reliability and bad build quality. I have a good Series IIA but could use a little more comfort and speed. Have the initial build problems been sorted yet? You'd expect so as it is 2011... they are not that new anymore. |

My local independant Landrover mechanic has two and works on several. In his opinion (think on he started out working on series trucks) they are very good, build quality is no worse than on previous models, reliability no worse...he hasn't had any in with serious issues. I know of a few at work that have been fine for many thousands of miles. In fact, everyone I have spoken to with a Puma tells me how great they are. 2011 110 USW

Kept going into limp mode, dealer says i was hiting the limiter, At 50 mph !!!
Turned out to be a faulty thermostat, temp gauge did not go into red though. On a funnier note LR assit sorted out a courtesy vehicle through enterprise, they tried to give me a vectra, when i asked what they were like off road and that i would not be accepting any responsibilty for damaged to the underside, the bloke nearly s**t himself, also asked what the maximum wading depth was, funny how quick they found a freelander 2 |

Mine a 2008 90XS has served me extremely well. Yes there have been 'minor niggles' that have always been sorted with courtesy, good service and a free replacement vehicle when needed! I still enjoy drving my Puma with the same excitement and gutso as the day I collected her, still on original major components that you hear about so often failing (clutch, gearbox etc.) Reliability and contentment are not really interesting news...Doom, gloom despondancy and mechanical failures are!!! If I was in the market for a replacement vehicle a Defender would be my weapon of choice like a shot!!! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

16,000 miles, 8 months old, minor issues only, reversing light intermittent on/off, few water leak problems in front foot wells but nothing major - no mechanical problems at all ... just had her in today as the rear mudguard has sheered off (where it bolts through the wing) but all sorting under warrantee, picked up from home for free with car provided ... no concerns so far! Bought mine at 37k miles and put 1500 more on it. Nothing major ever needed. Going to sort a few very minor issues under warranty. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.
