I had exactly the same happen, I kept resetting the CTEK and after a couple of days of resets it eventually started on the cycle and brought the battery back to life

Thanks Go Beyond, I have reset about 5 times so far in the last 24hrs will persevere a bit more before giving up.

Update on this is that the CTEK will not recover the battery I gave the battery a shake and it cycled through the recon program once but has repeatedly failed again since, the battery wont hold more than 12.2 volts so ended up buying a new battery which will be better treated than the old one. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
