Government to fine airports for closures
The government is proposing to fine airports if they close due to snow and disrupt travellers plans.

Now should the government fine local councils who do not keep their roads open when it snows?

Should the government fine local councils when they do not grit roads when black ice is forecasted?

Should the government fine the police for every unsolved crime?

Should the government fine hospitals for every patient who dies on hospital premises? Obviously they have not done their job properly.

Should the government fine schools for every pupil who can not read and write by a certain age?

Should the government fine the government for every terrorist attack in the UK? They have obviously failed in their duty to protect UK citizens!

The list goes on.

Or could we as taxpayers just 'fine' the government (i.e. withhold our taxes) when the government balls up????

Discuss

I reckon the airports should pass on the "fine" to the church.... after all, it is an act of god, let them pay up!

fining airports for being snow bound is fair enough. BAA just announced profits of over a billion. if they cant put a couple of hundred million into efficient snow clearing systems its a pretty poor show.

the economic effect of a closed airport like heathrow is far greater than a council not gritting a few roads, so i m not sure about the other points and their relevance. As long as mways and trunk roads are relatively clear, people need to take responsibility for themselves to get themselves to work ie winter tyres, autosocks etc, not rely on the state.

Maybe if you went to church you could help to fund the fine then Question Whistle

Im not sure of the point of this topic anyway - there are more government screw ups and issues than a fine to airports. Mike
