Defender front speakers
Just getting round to putting some new speakers into my defender, the ones by your knees. The holes measure 100mm but some 100mm speakers range with cut out requirements ranging from 85_ 106mm. I also need spacer block rings to give enough depth. Just wondering what sort to go for. Thanks in advance.

4"/100mm coaxials would be the nearest to a drop in replacement. If you want some level of improved midbass, then mounting them on 18mm MDF rings to give a solid base will help. Give the rings a coat of PU paint or something first though to protect them.

Having not looked into it properly, you might fit some 5 or even 6" speakers in there with some luck.

If you really want to go for it, get components and fit the tweeters up on the dash top.

OK thanks for that, I think I will stick to 100mm speakers as I don't want to start cutting the dash around to get bigger speakers in. Does the MDF spacers work that much better than the plastic ones?

You shouldn't need spacers unless there is a lack of clearance to the rear?
Generally speaking 130mm is the max and requires some dash cutting. 100mm is straight swap like I have.

Did you not need to pack the passenger side one as to miss the wiper motor?

Generally yup, they're just a lot more solid. Plastic ones tend to be pretty thin and the plastic resonates.
