I haven't driven the OCR before, but I have a mate in Glenridding who I'de probably take with me. My question is two fold.

whatever direction you fancy, and yes, any decent tyres will be fine, its just gravel after all.

Beautiful route - as BigMike says can drive it either way part of the Lake District's Hierarchy of Trails Routes

I'd recommend doing it west-east, but that's probably just cos that's the way I did it first time round.
Only bits to watch are the boggy bit in the middle (you'll know where I mean), and if it's been raining the puddles at the eastern end can be deeper than they look. Beautiful lane though, pick a nice day  |

There was some nice water features the last time I drove over it.

Best thing is I let you know when we next go out and come along. I don't really like sending out gpx routes over forums to be honest - you're welcome to come though.

Looks like someone went to play in the snow and got stuck this weekend:
"Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team members were called to assist a 24-year-old man from Ambleside who had injured his spine whilst snowboarding in the Keppel Cove area, near to Helvellyn." "The team then went to assist with a road traffic accident involving three cars, one of which was on its roof. The cars were blocking the road and preventing an ambulance from reaching the team to take the injured snowboarder to hospital." Holy thread revivals !
Mountain rescue and the air ambulances should be state funded in my opinion. They make such a massive difference to the lives they touch - and yet rely on charitable donations . |
