Work light wiring - need a few things confirmed
I am adding a JW speaker work light on the rear of the rack,

http://www.jwspeaker.com/products/led-work...d/1403241/

Only 1.3amp draw.... I have a puma heated screen switch in the cubby ( with a different switch head ) that I plan to use...I know which terminals do what, currently taking illumination feed and ground from neighbouring switch... But can I just take a fused positive from the battery to switch, then switched positive out to the light without a relay?? Andy

Yes. The switch should be more than capable of carrying that current.
A relay would give you the ability to add a 2nd switch at the back door if you want to turn on the light from there. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/

I generally fit all my accessories through relays and individual fuses. This example may not currently need its own relay, but as defender owners, the project is never finished and in five years time you might want that switch and wiring to operate something else entirely. If the wiring is up to the job and the fuse and relay are already in, it's a much easier task. I also run extra cables to future-proof my vehicle.

I'd agree that some pragmatism must be used, otherwise you'd end up with jump-lead thickness cables to power a work light, "just in case" you fancy a change.

just a thought...

Thanks Mark & Mike!

It's probably my last immediate wiring mod (for now)... I will get it up and running but when I have the truck stripped out for sound proofing I fully intend to refine every thing and get a nice tidy battery box like the other guys on here! Andy
