Quoting from the current edition of the french periodic "LandMag"...
The weakest point of a Puma 2.4 are the injectors, which need to be inspected every 80.000 km, because their bad functioning may cause a total engine failure. Is this a known problem, should it be a concern, and could it be checked? And if so, how can a main dealer check if all is ok if at 80.000 km there is nothing going wrong yet? I am having 79.000ish km now, so time to ask this on here. Eric ![]() Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender. Thanks Blackwolf, I am asking because for me this is also a first to read such statement.

![]() ![]() work in progress. just waiting for the seals and new bolts to arrive. ![]() suspect an intermittent sticking valve might be the problem (sometimes sounds on initial tick over like it's running on 3+1/2 cylinders, and clattering sound while on the move (sounds like injector noise and stops as soon as you take foot off the gas - so not sure if that could be a sticking valve or not?) ....one day....one day. - until then I live in hope. |

I know it's a fairly common problem on the 2.0l TDCI engine as fitted to the Mundaneo etc etc (Spelt incorrectly I know
![]() I believe on the 2.0 ford even released a software patch to help cover the issue..As it was something to do with injector wear causing diesel knock due to over fuelling Regards Tim It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse... 2013 Bowler 110 (Sold) 2016 Bowler 90 Rally Spec (Sold) |

We've had two die from melted pistons due to injector faults. Will try and find the photos.
