yes and sounds like a loose connection,to replace the bulb remove the facia containing the heater controls 2.4 90 XS

Thanks, Grockle! Can anyone tell me a part number for these bulbs, and whether they are normal bulbs that might be available from somewhere like Halfords, or are they LR specials? If anyone can tell me, it would avoid the need the dismantle the fascia once to find out what I need and then again to fit the new bulbs.

I had to do mine soon after I bought it. To remove the fascia, firstly withdraw the radio, disconnect its connections and set it aside, then remove the two Torx-head screws below the window lift switches. The panel is then held by five clips; two at the bottom corners, two more at the top corners of the from face, and one adjacent to the clock. Starting at the bottom carefully pry the panel towards you, when the bottom has unclipped the remaining clips should give. The panel comes out hoizontally towards the rear of the vehicle.
Next, reach behind the panel and disconnect the connectors from all the switches (depending on model spec and equipment levels there may be connectors on some of the switch blanks too). When all are free, the panel can be set aside. (I had great difficulty in the available space (and working at night in the dark) disconnecting the clock - I couldn't figure out the latch on the connector. In the end I left this connector on.) The bulbs for the heater are then accessible - their holders can be unclipped and the bulb then carefully removed. The awkward one is the one for the fug-stirrer/fresh-air slider, since it is between the two slider controls. The bulbs are capless R286 dahsboard bulbs which are widely available (for example http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/R286-Dash...ear.html). The bulb for the cigarette lighter is the same type. LED versions of the same bulb are also available (the site in the link above has them). To quote the old Haynes Manual classic, reassembly is the reversal of the dismantling procedure. |
