Cb aeriel help please
Hi all, struggling to get the SWT reading outa the red on a new installation,

I reckon it's earth related ? But I have added a separate earth lead direct to a good ground, and still doesn't affect the reading,
The lowest reading I have Is 10 which is way into the red and can damage the cb itself is used

I have added a couple of pics below, since these were taken I have ground down more bare metal around the earthing plate

I have tried two different leads and connectors also

Any tips please guys Sad

P.s I am aware it won't be perfect inside the workshop, but I threw a mag mount on the bonnett with the same aeriel and it samosa perfect, just a very slight movement of the needle

It's probably your positioning. You're generating a poor ground plane.
Try using a centre loaded aerial.

Mine is the same but thanks for the tip on the mag mount. I am fed up of pulling back the trim and filing away at the metal to get a good earth to no avail!

Hi Laurie,
As it happens I have a dome mount with a 90 degree thingy on it,

Still the same reading ,

If it's just positioning, I'm gutted as all the work I have done it's the only hole I have drilled in a brand new truck Crying or Very sad

Your aerial positioning isn't too bad, but ideally the spring portion should be above roof level.

Have you got good good earth at BOTH end of the cable - the CB unit needs to be well earthed and make sure there are no short circuits between the earth & signal wire.

On my setup I had a real problem getting a good SWR, in the end I replaced the aerial, mount & wire, despite having checked them all during installation I couldn't find exactly where the problem was. However, after changing the parts, it worked just fine. I suspect the cable had an internal bad connection.

Might be worth running some new cable and re-doing the connectors at both ends.

cheers

Ditto on the aerial position needs to be higher so the spring clears the body work. Try adding a quick release mount to the base and aerial to add a bit of height. Adventure isn't paved!

Hi

Check the screening/braiding on the coax, its either broken or has come adrift. The antenna to the transceiver is out of balance. You need to cure this before tuning in the antenna and reducing the SWR
