Is this a "standard" Defender relay?
I've been ferreting around in my battery box trying to tidy it up a bit and work out what's what, and I've found this relay floating around.

Is it a "normal" relay, or could it be for the (I assume dealer fitted) work lights that were on the roof rack?

There are some really odd wiring runs, there are a couple that go straight out of the front of the battery box and up to the dash, then one that goes out the side of the battery box, up through the top of the seat box just to the side of the seat rail and then down to the floor and up to the dash with the others. It just seems to have a merry little journey round the underneath of the Defender before getting there. I would dearly love to shoot the person that wired all the accessories in, they've done a crap job. And in fact did a crap job fitting most of them too.

looks aftermarket with the adjacent fuse, could be a genuine LR accessory loom though.

Have you got 13 pin or 12S towing electrics?

I think Martin has this one correct, could be wrong though but I think it's tow electrics if they are installed of course.

Looks like you have (or had) a dual battery system too?

No dual battery system, if you're referring to the solenoid on the right it's for the winch.
It does have 13 pin towing electrics, but I though that was all plug and play and didn't require any extra bits?

It did have factory/dealer fitted work lights on the roof rack.
I don't know where the power feed for the relay comes from, the cables disappear somewhere.
It's got a 20A fuse in the side.

The 13 pin (and 12S) tow electrics have a branch which goes forward to the battery box to a retrofitted relay to provide the ignition feed to the tow socket. Not quite plug-and-play!  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Thumbs Up

Thanks.

The good news is that I've got a fairly heavy duty ignition live in the battery box then Smile
