[Wanted] Disco 2 bottle jack
I'm looking for a bottle jack (for use with my Defender) and I hear that the Disco2 jack fits the bill.

Anyone have one they don't need any more..?

cheers

As far as I know the Disco2 and Defender bottle jacks are identical, though I have seen some which have much longer handles even though the jack is the same. Usually there will be some on Ebay, but prices vary enormously.

Some (all?) Range Rovers and possibly Disco 1 also have the same jack. A quick search on Ebay for "Landrover Bottle Jack" shows quite a few starting at £34.

Yeah, my TD5 has the older long screw jack, so wanted a bottle jack.

I've looked at the eBay ones, just wondered if anyone on here one. Plus, the eBay ones looked a bit dubious re: their condition. Ive got a search running on eBay, so a good one might turn up.

cheers

I understand that, and you'll often get a better deal from a sympathetic fellow forum member.

My Def also came with the terrifying and almost unusable screw bumper jack thing which I then rendered even more useless by fitting a winch bumper and swingaway wheel carrier.

I bought a Disco 2 tool kit from Ebay for about £20, it was grubby but appeared never to have been used, and ditched (ie put in the pile of things that might come in useful one day) the screw jack. I had to wait awhile for the right Disco2 jack to come up on Ebay, but with patience one will come.

Some Ebay vendors seem to have a completely unrealistic idea of the value of these jacks!

Have heard of a few people using Mercedes sprinter van bottle jacks as an alternative as they have the articulation needed to lift a defender. Loads on ebay both new and used for a lot less than the LR ones.

I nearly bought one, but over on the Disco3 forum a few people said they had problems with the Merc jacks. Plus they don't have the nice "U" shaped bracket on the top to stop it sliding off the axle.

The hunt continues..Wink

The Sprinter jack only seems to have an issue when modified for use with the D3, and letting the inner ram fall inside the outer one.

The Sprinter jack as standard has a Defender axle tube-compatible saddle. I know this as I have been using my Sprinter jack (bought for the D3) for my Defender, with its original saddle.

I also bought a take-off (take out?) Puma bottle jack, it's more compact than the Sprinter one and I intend stashing it in the battery box of the soft top.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

^^^ Thanks Martin, good to know.

Will the Merc jack fit under the Defender axle when the tyre is flat..? It looks a bit tall to me.

cheers
