Thanks all

Think I'm keeping with the black theme and I've gone for gloss black Defender front and rear,

My next little mod...

Finally got around to fitting the new lettering.
A big thanks to Adam (RRUK) for the advice on following a stringent cleaning regime Thumbs Up
Took about 3 hours to remove the old letters, clean and prepare the area.
Another hour taping and measuring the alignment of the letters.
I used a 30mm gap between the letters.
Very pleased with the 'new' look...

Looks good,

I've ordered my gloss black set, but I have to remove the old ones first Sad

That masking tape and marking looks a good suggestion. I think the set I bought says it comes with a template?

Here's what I said to Jason in Botswana...

Hi Jason,

In the past when I have done the lettering on my Range Rovers I have found the template to be useless, it's just a piece of cardboard that holds the letters in a line with some sticky clear tape, but the letters are rarely lined up very well, and so I have removed them and done it manually, one by one to ensure it looks good (I relied on the template for my TD5 and it looked weird)

My advice is this.

Remove all the current lettering so you have a clean canvas. Clean up the paintwork as much as you can while there is no lettering at all, this is your one and ONLY chance to do so! Make it count!

Next, the lettering will need to be centred on the bonnet, so measure and mark with tape where the centre line is.

On mine, I have equal spacing either end of the lettering <D> of 13cm each side

The spacing between each letter is approximately 2.75cm

The space beneath the letters to the leading lip of the bonnet where it meets the top of the centre grille panel is 2.5cm

Hope this helps.

Stacey...
Mine did come with a template when ordered, but from being delivered to a friend in the UK and him arriving in Botswana, the template went missing.

Not having an accurate enough ruler, I went with 3cm between the letters and think the 0.25cm difference in the spacing has made no visual difference.
Remember to clean that paintwork...

Thanks again, Adam Thumbs Up Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

The time consuming thing was removing the residue from the old letters, which took about 30 mins.
Fixing the new ones was perhaps a 15 mins job - really easy.
