VSR Split Charger any issues with Defender Puma Engine?
I'm just about to take delivery of a new Defender and want to fit a split a dual battery split charge system. Does the Puma use any intelligent or smart charging that means that a Voltage Sensitive Relay Split Charger will not work?

I've also read that smart charge systems as used by Ford are designed to be used with silver calcium batteries and not lead acid types. I hope not since I've just bought two new Odyssey batteries!

Any help or advice on this would be very much appreciated. I've had a query in with LR Customer Service for 3 weeks but no answer. I want to start fitting the kit soon.

My old 200TDi seemed so much simpler Wink

The alternator is turned on by the ECU but other than that's it's just a normal 150A alternator.

For some reason, the words "intelligent" and "smart" are not words I usually associate with any Defender, even a Puma.

There should be no problems with what you propose, and I think that there are several others on this forum who have already installed similar systems.

I've only got a little aux battery and have an £8 30A VSR charging it. It's hidden in the back by the rear aux power feed.

Odyssey batteries are not conventional lead acid batteries, they are AGM or absorbed glass mat so do not have any free liquid acid like a conventional lead acid battery.

Have run twin Odyssey batteries with a IBS split charge system with no problems on a 09 Defender.

Will be fitting a similar system in a new Defender as well.
