I wouldn't use stainless as they are not hi tensile and more prone to seize or shear.
Not that stainless is bad, far from it but just for this application. |

You need 10.9 for these which I suspect rules out stainless. You could go with BZP socket head caps, or maybe get some chromed, though if you're using standard flanges why not just paint them black?

You can get SS in a high enough tensile strength but it will be stupidly expensive just for the shine, just get some paint on them or some acorn nut caps and stick them on with silly cone

There is no equivalent SS bolt which matches a normal steel 10.9 bolt ive seen. possibly some very specialised stuff i wouldn't know about.
Common stainless is either A2-70 which does not equal a 8.8 bolt, and A2-80 which is about the same as a 8.8 steel bolt. Ive used A2-80 on certain suspension components but nothing under significant load. I wouldnt use any stainless on calipers, hubs, swivels, drive members etc etc. |

A2 Grade is 304 grade stainless and A4 is 316 grade.
Generally the higher strength stainless bolts available are A2-70 (not very strong and corrode with chlorine environment) and A4-80 (comparable to grade 8.8 bolts and better corrosion protection.) If you would like it to look better than standard, I would get some BZP grade 12.9 socket head bolts (http://www.namrick.co.uk/acatalog/Home_Metric_Socket_Cap_Head_Screw__Grade_12_9_Zinc_Plated__34.html), clean and degrease the drive flange and lacquer the whole area (with the splined centre masked off) Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Mikeh501, I doubt High Tensile Stainless would be used in automotive but I have used them in non automotive applications where there is certain corrosion or temp issues, As said they would be STUPIDLY expensive.

I've fitted new BZP 12.9 cap heads on mine when I replaced the drive flanges, bought them from the local builders hardware supply shop, fraction of the price of the original LR ones and nice 'n shiny
