2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Java Black

Tig Welder

Hi,

I am looking to learn to TIG weld and am looking for a suitable machine to start with.

I have someone to teach me, who welded professionally for many years but has been out of the industry for a while now so is not up to speed with what might be a good buy.

Any recommendations would be gratefully received

Cant recommend r-tech highly enough. Made in the uk with quality parts, great warranties and customer service.

Got one of their plasma cutters and planning one of their AC TIGs myself next year.

Great little bit of kit, with a good parts back up too. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

We've got a Fronius, and whilst I can't TIG myself others can and I can vouch for it being brilliant stick welding.

2004 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Stornoway Grey

R-Techs are good, but they are still Chinese units which they fettle with. Not putting them down as they are still great. But they're not made completely in the UK units. I also like Stahlwerk units too.

Both been around a good long time, both bring them over from further abroad but tweak with slightly better quality components (but still not quite Lincoln etc) and have much better quality control.

Both honour warranty well, though in my research, Stahlwerk are better even though they're Germany based. Only downer is that does result in slightly slower turn around with international shipping. But they normally pay all shipping fee's etc.

They're the 2 'cheaper' brands I'd stick with. Otherwise you're looking at the bigger players in the market

+1 on the Esab. I have a Murex which is the same as the Esab. Mine is easy to use. You just tell it the material thickness and it sets the parameters for you..

Thats really helpful. It looks like i'm going to have to spend a little more than I hoped but I'm considering it an investment

Any particular models?
