So i have finally come to wiring in my Focal Ibus Sub woofer after 2 years of owning it, and sadly found that it doesn't like to stay on for long.
I wired it all up today, fitted to the Alpine head unit and wired it to the main battery but found it hard to find an appropriate earth connection. When I finally found one it was great for 5 minutes or so then stopped, now usually when you find an earth point it will give sparks, this did happen preliminarily however when it stopped working it no longer would give that spark indication. Now what ever I touch with the earth lead i get no sparks! I have checked the fuses and all are intact, the wires aren't warm nor burnt out. I am miffed as to what it is apart from if I have a short circuit inside the unit! All help is greatly needed. |

How are you turning it on?

I had a poor connection on the switched live from the head unit. The bullet connect was a little too large for the female on the short loom that came with the sub which gave same symptoms.
Good luck. |

The Live is fed directly off the battery, the earth lead is to the chassis and the blue wire is the only other wire that is attached to the REM on the head unit apart from the red and white leads. Music came out of the sub when it first was plugged in , sounded great but then lost all power to it. All fuses are still fine and correct!

Try removing the blue RMT and put it to battery live. See if it turns the Amp on and runs.
If it does then it'll be dodgy connector as mentioned above. If not check everything is secure. If all those things check out sounds like you've got an internal electrical failiure. |

Where is it mounted? If it ran for 5 mins it might be the thermal cutout if it's mounted in a tight area Ray

If you were getting sparks when connecting the earth you're doing it wrong, should
Always connect earth first and then the power. You may have damaged the internals on the amp. But the amps usually have their own fuses which would go before any damage occurs (usually) Check all connections are secure, is there an indicating light on the amp to say whether it's on or in protect mode?! |

It wont even come on , there is a protective mode but i am getting zero power. I will test it with a volt meter tomorrow

If it's in protective then it must have overheated.
Is it a regular Amp or a Class D? |
