United Kingdom 2016 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Keswick Green
I had a great holiday in Namibia a few years ago, Flew into Windhoek and picked up a 4x4 with 2 roof tents and camping gear supplied. We only had a couple of weeks but that was a short rental, most folks have at least a month and get across to Botswana & South Africa. They are a common customs area so no problems with taking cars across the borders.

You could also start from Cape Town and do the same thing. You could hire a Defender as well though it may well be a V8 as most of them were at this time (5years ago)

Visit all the wildlife parks you can and have a ball. Exchange rate to ZAR is great too !

Regards Dave

Continued thanks to you all. Bow down

The email goes out to the old man this weekend. Money no object, I'd plump for popping over to see Eduardo Very Happy , however I am liking the sound of Scandinvia but on Td5s recommendation dipping into Russia.

As for SA, will keep fine wine, Safaris etc for Mrs Grenadier. She was gutted to miss out when I did seven weeks in Kenya, so a second time and you can bet my parts/upgrades supply would dry up Rolling with laughter

Will let you know what he chooses....thanking you all again. Thumbs Up

PS, Dave (last post) must be hard to choose between a Defender and R1200GS..!!! Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Very jealous of you having this opportunity. Unless you are wedded to taking your own vehicle (and the costs of getting it specced up and shipped over) and given the relatively time frame you have, consider renting a 4x4 for a southern Africa trip. Collecting a 110 in Joburg and heading into Namibia and Botswana for 4-6 weeks would be epic. A full range of driving conditions to test you and some of the most stunning scenery and fauna on the planet. Plenty of local groups to advise and assist. We drove motorbikes from Zambia to Cape Town via Botswana and Namibia which was epic but a 4x4 will give you even more access and options.
