Shouldnt be any spring behind there. Think screw just had a tapered end that seats to close the return port. Are you sure you bled it correctly. When mine lost all its fluid I had to open the filler port on the end of the pump, refill it holding verticallu and allow the air to escape. I found i had to cycle it a few times whilst keeping the pump vertical to get the air out.

cheers steve. i dont sappose theres a small ball bearing behind there? there was one near the pool of oil when it hit the floor. but thought it was just somehting from an old bearing. pump feels like its working but not making pressure. we tried for hrs to bleed it. tried bleed pump holding above and below the ram. with knob released and tighened. no luck tho we were only guessing. I'm not familiar withthe Sealey version of that pump (all mine are Enerpac) but it is not impossible that there was a ball bearing in the release valve. Bleeding that kind of pump should only involve making sure that there is oil in it, and pumping with the outlet lower than the reservoir to start with. The fact it's not working suggests the valve isn't sealing.

If you stand the pump on end, hose uppermost, and unscrew the valve again, take a look at the end of the screw and at the valve seat. If the end of the screw is pointy and the seat is just a hole, chances are the ball was not from it. If the end of the screw is flat, and the seat is chamfered (funnel shaped) pop the ball in and try again.

well im chuffed to mintballs!

got the apprentice to pump it for a good half hour, most work hes done in a long time the lazy little git. Rolling with laughter

after it began to work but after 10ton pressure would drop rapidly. so i popped the vavle know out and had a peak. end was flat and a slight recess. so popped in the ball bearing and got apprence to stand there pumping it (fact he fell for it again was just comical! Whistle ) and hey presto, it works!

cheers guys! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
