They are also illegal to use as a replacement for a standard filament bulb as the type approval would be void.

There are two options, both of which have been mentioned.
One is replacement bulbs - these are illegal as Brendan rightly points out. The other is proper/complete LED units (bulbs and lens etc) as per the Mudstuff link. These are EU Approved. So yes you can beef up your brake lights, side lights and indicators (will need to change the relay for the latter to get right blink rate) The Rules:- 1 Buccaneer comes back alive. 2 Chicks dig scars.
