1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Caledonian Blue

Spring orientation

Maybe a daft question but...Do suspension springs have a top and a bottom? Or does it not matter which way up they fit? 1999 Defender TD5 110

don't it make any difference

but if you have a dual rate spring where some coils one end are closer together then they tend to be fitted with closer coils at the top , but this doesn't matter , but better for looks if they all the same

on some cars you have a top and bottom , but that's only as they have different coil sizes and different fitting top and bottom

Just to endorse the correct info from munch [top bloke] ......

The reason tighter coils go top rather than bottom is to stop the spring centres filling up with mud/stones/debris ....

Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

5.5 hrs inc 1hr for bacon butties and 40 mins pause while rain appeared and some fun and games with a sheared nut on the spring plate 1999 Defender TD5 110

Not surprised with those due to their location.
I like to have new spares just in case if I need them.

I had new ones but the bolt sheared so drilled out and replaced with nut and bolt rather than a bolt with a captive. 1999 Defender TD5 110
