Strange problem with fuel/temp gauges
For the past few weeks the bulbs/lights in the fuel and temp gauges have been temperamental. Sometimes on, sometimes off when the headlights are turned on.

I assumed this was a loose connection on the bulbs, however today something else happened. When i came to the car this evening the fuel gauge went up to around halfway as it should, but then slowly fell to empty and the fuel light came on. It was then moving up and down.

When I got home i took off the instrument cluster panel and tried all the connections. They all seem good and the bulbs aren't in fact gone. More oddly though if after removing the bulb holders and then push the bulbs back into the instrument dials and then hit the dials, the bulbs come back on... they won't come on if they are "wiggled" whilst out of the dials.

Could there be something else strange affecting all this in one go?

Not sure if there is a common earth for only the fuel and temp gauges? And strangely the temp gauge works fine at actually reading the temp, just the two bulbs and fuel gauge which are playing up.
