Christies have announced that one of the two remaining flying WW2 Spitfires is due to be auctioned this summer.
If only I had a spare £ 5-10million it would have been nice to park it next to the series 1's ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.christies.com/spitfire/interactive/index.html |

Whenever I've seen one fly overhead it makes my chest vibrate hard and hairs stand up on the back of my neck, just like a Lancaster, strange feeling.
Just imagine how expensive a new EGR or intercooler would be though ![]() |

What a machine.
I've been to Duxford, & whilst the quality & amount of work they do there is amazing, without wishing to be negative, I just wonder how much of the original aircraft is in the "new" one? Pickles. |

I've read about that particular aircraft before and in reality I don't believe there is much of the original left. It was not that long ago when there were still original Spitfires stuck on sticks outside RAF stations. Steve.

"The work has been done by the Aircraft Restoration Company, based at Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire. “It’s been an incredible project,” says chief engineer Martin “Mo” Overall, 36. “Everything that could possibly be used from the original plane has been used, and everything else has come from other Spitfires or been made to the exact original designs." A little more info on it..... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/world-w...years.html If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I only scan read the original link but I got that it had a new fuselage and new wings...Trigger's new broom?
It must be a touchy subject as without the history the value must be lower. However, it's still a Spitfire and great to see it's still flying and there are people with the skills still to make them ![]() |
